How to Install macOS Sierra 10.12 in VMware Workstation 15 / VMware Workstation 14 on Windows 10? – Apple has announced the Mac OS Sierra, the latest version of the MAC operating system. With the macOS Sierra, the Siri’s capabilities have further enhanced. Jump to VMware macOS Unlocker - Fortunately there is a tool that helps me unlock this option, this tool is VMware macOS Unlocker. It supports Windows.
VMware Unlocker is a program that allows you to install Mac OS X onto any computer using VMWare or VirtualBox to create a Hackintosh. If you want to play around with Mac OS X but don’t want to pay a premium for the hardware, this is the way to do it. You can install and use Mac OS X on many Intel-based computers and experiment to your heart’s content. This tutorial will walk you through how to run Mac OS X in Windows 10 with VMware Unlocker. A Hackintosh is the popular term for installing Mac OS X onto a non-Apple device such as a normal PC. The OS will work much the same as on an Apple but within a virtual machine. As long as you follow these instructions exactly, you should notice no difference in terms of usability and utility between a genuine Mac and a Hackintosh.
You will need an Intel-based computer running Windows 10. You will need virtualization enabled in your UEFI/BIOS, a copy of, 7-Zip. There are lots of sources of Mac OS X and I only link to one. If you want to use another, as long as it’s compatible with VMware and Hackintosh setups you’re all good. This version of Mac OS X is Yosemite and comes with VMware OS X files for use with VMware Unlocker. Setting everything up If you have an Intel PC and have downloaded the files above, we can get started. The Mac OS X download is around 6GB so if you haven’t gotten it already, you might want to start the download ahead of time.
Once you’re ready, it’s time to get going. Reboot your computer and load into the UEFI/BIOS.
Hit Delete when your keyboard lights up to access this. Navigate to wherever Virtualization is within your BIOS and enable it. Different manufacturers put it in different places so explore to find yours. Boot into Windows once enabled. Install 7-Zip or other free archiving tool if you don’t already have it. Download, extract it somewhere and install it. It will patch VMware Workstation so it will load Mac OS X.
Open your Mac OS X folder and run both win-install.cmd and win-update-tools.cmd as an administrator. Open VMware Workstation and select Open a Virtual Machine. Select the Mac OS X VMX file you downloaded and open it. Select Edit virtual machine settings within VMware Workstation. Select Options and Version and set it to Mac OS X 10.7. Change any other options you see fit such as memory, disk space and so on. Select Power and Start Up Guest when you’re ready.
Follow the Mac OS X installation wizard that will appear. It takes a few minutes but is very good. Go back to VMware Workstation and select Settings.
Navigate to CD/DVD and browse to the darwin.iso file from within the Mac OS X folder you downloaded. Check the box next to Connected at the top. Go back to Mac OS X and you should see a popup for VMware Tools.
If you don’t, reboot the VM. Install VMware Tools when prompted and reboot again. Go back to VMware Workstation and select Settings. Navigate to CD/DVD and browse to the BeamOff.iso file from within the Mac OS X folder. In Mac OS X navigate to System Preferences and Users and Groups.
Select your account and then Login Items. Select the small ‘+’ icon in the left and select BeamOff. Reboot if prompted. Your Hackintosh should now be fully functional.
Depending on what file has been uploaded as the Mac OS X source, you may be running Yosemite or El Capitan. If this article has been published for a while, it may be something else completely. If you are prompted by OS X to perform updates, it is safe to do so. When I installed Mac OS X using this method I was prompted to upgrade to El Capitan. It took a little while but it installed and worked without any problems.
BeamOff is optional and works mainly to improve website performance. If you’re running a high spec PC, you may not need to install it but if you notice slowdowns in your Hackintosh performance, install it and see if it makes a difference. This method isn’t exactly legal so you have to use your own judgment as to whether or not to build your own Hackintosh. TechJunkie isn’t recommending or condoning it but knowledge is free to all and if you’re going to do it, you may as well do it right.

If you are a Hackintosh user with desktop virtualization software VMware workstation, then the “VMware unlocker” is a compulsory utility to run Mac OS X virtual machines on Windows computer. This unlocker utility replaces few VMware program files and patches them to install and run latest OS X 10.11, 10.10 and older versions as virtual machines. Earlier Mac OS X versions like and can run on VMware desktop virtualization products without this patch. But the latest versions require this patch.
I have already published few guides about installing, and OS X on VMware workstation by using this unlocker. I have demonstrated and tested the unlocker in VMware Workstation 7 series in, but once it was upgraded to version, or 8, it stopped working, its same for VMware workstation 12 too. Obviously, the upgrade process would have replaced earlier patched files, therefore I could not able to uses OS X guests. Using this VMware unlocker patch did the trick and now I can use Mac OX S virtual machines on Windows 10. Extra Note: Some user reported that even after upgrading to VMware workstation 12 from previous version, their Mac OS virtual machine keep working without using this unlocker. I do not know the exact reason for it, therefore, after the upgrade you can directly try your existing Mac guest machines, if they do not work then use this patch to unlock Mac OS X support on Unlocker 2.0.7 for VMware Workstation 12/11 I’m just a tester of this utility.
Full credits should who produced a great tool. The latest version 2.0.7 added support for new Windows 10 and few host Operating Systems. The unlocker version 2.0.7 works fine with the latest VMware workstation 12 and older versions such as 11. Here is working El Capitan 10.11 on Windows 10 with VMware workstation 12 by using latest unlocker 2.0.7. Though following screenshots are taken from older Windows Operating System, but the methods and installation steps are identical for Windows 10 too. As you see, there is no Mac OS X support under Guest operating system list. Download 2.0.7 Unlocker (Link below) Visit the ( free registration required). How to Install Unlocker on Windows 10 for VMware Workstation 12/11 Close the all virtual machines and VMware workstation program. Right click on ‘win-install.cmd’ and select Run as administrator. The script will stop the VMware services, copy few files and some other scripting stuff (you will see more about on-going process on the command prompt) and start the VMware services. Once it has successfully patched the VMware workstation 12/11, you should be able to see the Mac OS X guest support as shown below.
That’s it, you should be able to install and use Mac OS X guest VMs on. Here is the working Mac OS X 10.10.1 on Windows 8.1 with VMware workstation 11. Read below if you have older versions. Unlocker for VMware workstation 10, 9, 8 and 7 The latest Unlocker 2.0.7 will work on most of the VMware workstation and Windows Operating Systems, but if you still have the older version, then you can follow below steps. I have not updated the screenshots for latest 1.1.1 unlocker or VMware workstation 10/9. The all below screenshots remain same with earlier versions (almost one year ago). But after seeing couple of positive feedback from users regarding this patch for VMware workstation 10 , I thought to update this post.
After applying patch with VMware unlocker – One more Guest OS type and versions. For VMware workstation 7.0 series. Which is having unlocker for 7.0 series.
How to Use Unlocker Its very simple. Close all VMware programs (if opened) Extract the downloaded file. The latest Unlocker is having patch for Windows, Linux, Fusion 4.0 on Snow Leopard and Lion and VMware ESXi 5. Before run the patch, its recommended to take a backup of VMware program folder, because this patch will replace the original files. Even though the utility takes backup which can be replaced later if required, but its good to have a backup copy taken by you. Right click on install.cmd file and select run as administrator option as shown below. ( or you can start the command prompt as administrator in Windows 7 computer and execute install.cmd from command prompt) The successful patch will return the following screen (and disappears automatically) That’s it.
You patched the VMware workstation 10, 9, 8 on Windows 7 host to run Mac OS X Lion guest. Restarting the host computer is not required here. Here is the working Mountain Lion OS X 10.8 in VMware workstation 9 with Windows 7 32 bit host after running unlocker.
